The growing demand for land in rural areas of developing countries is taking place in a context of increasing land scarcity and land degradation, mainly due to demographic pressure and the effects of climate change. Maendeleo Agric is dedicated to bringing controlled environment agriculture (CEA) farming to the world. CEA or greenhouse farming allows farmers to produce higher yields, organically, on less land, with less water and in any environment. CEA farming also brings production closer to population centers, reducing carbon emissions. Unfortunately, until recently CEA was only affordable to more developed countries with state-sponsored agricultural sectors, like the Netherlands, Belgium, Japan and Israel. Thanks to our partnership with EAC, Maendeleo Agric is able to access Hi-Tech, cutting edge greenhouse technology designed and produced in China at a fraction of the cost. These greenhouses, patented by EAC, are called EnviroDomes™ and provide the farmer with a “Hi-Tech, Low Cost” solution. Maendeleo Agric model farms will produce high-quality horticulture, retail the EnviroDome systems and teach local farmers key CEA techniques for high yield production. By creating a modular and low-cost solution, small farmers and small land-holders now have a chance to use CEA agriculture and generate a profitable living and are provided a road out of poverty.
